Abstract

This research paper was an attempt to measure the social media usage of high school students during COVID - 19 pandemic. The objectives were: i) to find out the level of social media usage of high school students, ii) to find out, if there is any significant difference between boys and girls in their social media usage, iii) to find out, if there is any significant difference between rural and urban students in their social media usage, iv) to find out, if there is any significant difference among government, aided and self-financed schools students in their social media usage. Survey method was adopted for the study. The population of the study was high school students in Thoothukudi district. 326 high school students from 11 schools in Thoothukudi district were selected as sample by using stratified random sampling technique. The stratification was done by gender, locality of residence and Type of management. Social media scale (2021) was developed and validated by Maria Albin Leon and Sasipriya. Content validity was established. The reliability of the scale found is 0.78. Percentage analysis, t - test, F - tests were used for data analysis. The major finding was that there is significant difference between male and female in their social media usage.
