Abstract
Library and information science (LIS) professionals and researchers use social media for various purposes. These reasons include providing services, reaching target audiences, collaborating, and understanding information-seeking behaviors. This entry reviews ways that LIS professionals use social media and research it. Bibliometrics are employed to analyze LIS and social media research from 2019 to 2023. Results show that social media research in LIS focuses heavily on marketing and academic libraries. LIS scholars research in Nigeria, the United States, and China produce the most research on social media.
