Abstract

The inclusion of social aspects into mainstream sustainability management, tools, and methodologies had gained prominence in recent years. An increasing number of initiatives promoting supply chain due diligence have been positioning social issues as a central concern. Social life cycle assessment (SLCA) provides a holistic, systemic, and rigorous tool to understand social issues that may arise in the value chains of products and services sustaining human life today. The present article provides an introduction to the concept of SLCA, its principles, and an overview of how it has been applied to support decision makers in the private and the public sectors.
