Abstract

Oral language disorders impact on social behaviors and family relationships as well as the more commonly recognized effects on academics and professional achievement. Language remediation should focus directly on the specific language deficits, provide situations that help develop appropriate social interaction skills, and allow the individual to understand and take responsibility for effective communication and relationships. Family, teachers, and associates who understand the social implications of a language disorder can help the individual achieve more positive social interactions.
