Abstract
Complexity and individualisation are two phenomena increasing in industrialised societies; they pose particular challenges to learning and teaching in school education. Environmental educators are able to make important contributions to the developing of solutions to these challenges as is seen in examples of recent approaches taken by schools. These ideas provide a basis for developing criteria for evaluating quality of environmental education.
