Abstract

The development of transportation system uses chemical energy to provide its mechanical energy needed to move. This mechanical energy of the transport system in the form of friction energy, potential energy of the weighted vehicles, heat energy of the tyre in contact with the road, sound energy of the vehicles and other sound energy related activities on the road is left unharnessed. However, this wasteful energy on this road could be utilizes into electrical energy through suitable approach that includes piezoelectric transducer QB220-503YB with dimensions (31.8×66.7×1.8 mm) at each of the carriageway in the road junction, utilizes the weight of moving vehicles with the aid of piston-spring pressure and then convert it into beneficial electric energy. This paper studied attempts to concentrate the possibility of taking advantage over traffic road junction by pressure in weighted form of moving vehicles and Pedestrians and in turn convert it to electrical energy using ramp coupled to piston-spring pressure arrangement and Piezoelectric material, stored the converted energy in the high performance battery for further public utilities, off national electricity grid. This is called Smart Traffic Road junction, an intersection of different cardinal roads network at a point. The case study, Traffic Road junction, was considered where wasteful energy much more than just a carriageway is more unnoticed. From the observation, it is noticed that the electric power is highest with the large truck weighing 2460kg, thus the 100 transducers at the four carriage lanes will produce about 102.612 kilowatt-hours. As known a LED street lamp consume about 60 watts-hour; so the produced amount of converted energy is sufficient to power 1710 number of street lights or appliances within the permissible range.
