Abstract
Isotropic circular fishnet metasurface (CFM) is designed to realize a small-sized circularly polarized (CP) patch antenna. One numerical example shows that a patch antenna with patch length of 30mm can resonate at 2.529GHz when loaded with the CFMs on the ground plane. The substrate is with dielectrics constant of 2.2. The electrical patch length is 0.37λ g which is beyond the 0.5λ g limitation for a conventional antenna. In addition, the new CFM CP antenna is observed with improved impedance and axial ratio (AR) bandwidth performances over the conventional design. These results make the CFM CP patch antenna very promising in the portable wireless applications.
