Abstract

In this literature, study and comparison of the two configurations of Circularly Polarized (CP) microstrip patch antennas have been observed. Circular Polarization has been achieved in two ways - by incorporating a slot on the patch of the antenna and chamfering the edge of the patch respectively. It has been observed that the simulated axial ratio (AR) bandwidth is 1.25% (2.37 GHz-2.4 GHz) and the impedance bandwidth (IBW) is 6.6% (2.31-2.47 GHz) in the slotted CP patch. The AR bandwidth and the IBW are both found to be comparatively wider in the slotted CP patch element (configuration 1) than the chamfered patch (configuration 2). The dimension of the CP patch structure is <tex>$28\ \text{mm}\ \times\ 28\ \text{mm}$</tex>. The two CP configurations are simulated using the Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio 2019. Realized gain of the two CP patch antennas are found to be around 1.15 dBi and 1.98 dBi at their respective resonant frequencies 2.37 GHz and 2.5 GHz.
