Abstract

The authors compare the operating characteristics of a compact flat plate antenna with those of a classical quarter-wavelength monopole for portable telephone applications. Similar performances are obtained for both antennas, proving that the low-profile antenna offers an attractive alternative to other monopolar antenna structures for small-sized transceiver units.
