Abstract

Coatings present a novel way of protecting surfaces from wear and corrosion. Thermal spraying has emerged as a versatile method in that any substrate material can be coated with either ceramic or metallic or a composite coating of these materials. In the present work, copper substrate has been coated with Titania-30wt% Inconel718 using atmospheric plasma spray technique and coatings of thickness 100 and 200 micrometers have been developed. The specimen were subjected to slurry erosive wear test by simulating the corrosive–erosive atmosphere by mixing silica sand and 3.5% NaCl in distilled water. Under identical conditions coated copper exhibited higher wear resistance compared to uncoated copper.
