Abstract

Similar to other new EU Member States analysed in this book, Slovakia underwent a change from being a recipient of ‘development’ cooperation to becoming its donor during the late 1990s and early 2000s.1 However, it is questionable to what extent Slovakia could be labelled a ‘new’ donor. As citizens of Czechoslovakia for a major part of the 20th century, Slovaks had their fair share of experience, providing aid during the Communist period between 1948 and 1989.
