Abstract

Objective To investigate sleep quality and amount in children aged 7~13 years with very low birth weight(VLBW). Methods From 1997 to 2003, 78 very low birth weight infants who were accomplished physical measurements, medical records collection and questionnaire were included in the study(VLBW group, n=78). At the same time, 80 children with normal birth weight who also accomplished physical measurements, medical records collection and questionnaire were included in the study(normal group, n=80). The study protocol was approved by the Ethical Review Board of Investigation in the First People's Hospital of Jingzhou City. Informed consent was obtained from the parents of each participating child.All children were 7-13 years old in June 2010. Results There was no significant difference in sleep quality and amount between VLBW group and normal group(P>0.05). Conclusion Children with very low birth weight had similar quality and amount of sleep to normal children. Key words: very low birth weight infant; sleep; sleep state
