Abstract

Volume optimization of truss and frame structures is considered in this paper, trying to stress the appearance of several local minima in these classes of problems. In truss structures size and shape optimization is studied using a sequence of linear problems with move limits and some of the numerical results presented are different from other previous References. Also, two multi portal frame are analyzed for size optimization in this paper. Many local minima exist in each case, that are identified by combining, consecutively, feasible directions method and the fully stressed design criterion.
