Abstract
922 cases of gastr ic ulcer, who were treated medically and were cured by us, have fo!lowed up after their healing in the past eight yrs. Among them 82 relapsed cases have been operated because of their repeated relapses or suspicious malignant changes. Out of them, 71 were benign and 11 were malignant. The previous films of X-ray and fiberscope or gastrocamera of those 11 malignant cases were reviewed precisely and it was found that the previous films should be read as malignant on the first films and ulcers could be become smaller in diameter even in malignant lesions, as were reported by Murakami, Sano, Okabe, Sakita and others. And Murakami reported such cases as cases showing " malignant cycle ". In our cases, benign ulcer cycle cases were, generally speeking, younger than malignant cycle cases. And 25 out of 43 benign ulcers showed multiple ulcers on the resected stomach, but only one out of 11 of malignant cycle group showed two ulcers. And it was also noticed that 72% of benign cycle group showed deep ulcers (U1 IV), but in the malignant group deep ulcer (U1 IV) was seen in only one case. At this time we suppose that ulcers do not change to malignat. Malignant ulcers were malignant from the first s tart , although they could be become smaller, too. We have not seen any case who has been died of cancer of the s tomach in our 922 case of follow up study.
