SITE SELECTION MECHANISM OF CIVIC CENTERS APPLIED STUDY: (BURAIDAH CITY - QASSIM - SAUDI ARABIA)

Abstract

The existing towns that grew up without previous planning, which acquired a clear and tangible impact within the governments and states, due to their particular civilizational cultural and heritage features they became attractive to inhabitants, visitors and having increasing numbers of population,these cities need to improve their urban interface. We found that civic centers will help in the development of these cities as they have a clear impact and important goals both in terms of quality and access to activities and services or in terms of improving the urban environment in general.These centers provide an advanced urban pattern and a long-term vision for the development of the city, which helps in solving many critical issues that may be caused by the uncontrolled expansion of these cities.But these centers need to determine the exact functions and tasks; you also need a mechanism to help in choosing optimal locations of these centers in order to achieve the desired objective of the establishment.The research focuses on preparing a mechanism for selecting the places of civic centers within the existing towns through systematic steps helping in finding out that choice by studying the scientific theories of the big civic centers, whether mono or multifunctional, as well as studying the civic center of the city that considered as a miniature model of the big civic center, and studying the steps of site selection, and then getting criteria of selecting location of civic centers that will be considered as selection measure.Then to apply these conclusions through studying the city of Buraidah; which belongs to the Emirate of Qassim in Saudi Arabia and studied it from the urban perspective and then to find the best places to establish civic centers of the city. These steps can be followed by general organizations that are responsible for the development of the cities at the beginning of their development in existing cities and put civic centers in their priorities as one of the important urban pillars for the development of cities.
