Abstract
This paper aims to provide an introduction to the discussion of affirmative action policies and socioeconomic conditions based on the case of the implementation of quotas for black and mulatto students at the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (UENF). Besides the theoretical discussion, the work presents the research project in wich we mapped the socio-economic profile of students who benefited from the quota system, and a comparative analysis with a similar study conducted at the University Federal Fluminense (UFF).
