Abstract

We report, here, a biosensor based on flow injection of the recognition element (glucose oxidase), applied on small volume (30 μl) whole blood samples. This SIRE (sensors with injectable recognition elements) technology based biosensor gave a linear response in the range of 0-12 mM glucose. A repeatability of 5.1% (n=11) and a reproducibility of 8.0 % (n=4) was observed when using glucose standard solutions. A glucose tolerance monitoring, after a peroral intake, was performed. Our clinical analysis, shown in this report, illustrates that the results obtained by the SIRE biosensor are comparable to results obtained from a commercial device (Medisense, USA). The advantages of the presented biosensor, concerning multi analyte analysis and background signal control, are focused upon. These features makes the biosensor especially suitable for real time bed side monitoring at hospitals.
