Abstract
Single-particle electroproduction and photoproduction at large transverse momentum are investigated in a covariant parton model. It is shown that the constituent interchange diagrams are not gauge invariant to leading asymptotic order, and the further diagrams necessary to obtain gauge invariance are discussed. The same diagrams are found to dominate in the asymptotic limit for both electroproduction with large or small photon momentum squared, and for photoproduction. In the model the processes are shown to have a power law fall-off in energy, with a remaining dependence on the relevant ratios of invariants, similar to the behaviour in hadronic cross-sections.
