Abstract
The level structure of 205Tl and 203Tl is described by a simple model which couples the 3 s 1 2 , 2 d 3 2 , 1 h 11 2 , 2 d 5 2 and 1 g 7 2 single-hole states with quadrupole and octupole vibrations of the core. No adjustable parameter appears in the calculation. The calculated energy spectra and electromagnetic transition probabilities are in good agreement with the experimental data. Also, the strong fragmentation of the single-hole strength revealed by the experiments of Hinds et al. is quite well reproduced by the theory.
