Abstract

A novel circular polarisation (CP) design of a single-feed square ring microstrip antenna with truncated corners is described. Experimental results show that the proposed design has a reduced antenna size as compared to the conventional circularly-polarised square microstrip antenna with truncated corners at a given operating frequency. Also, the required size of the truncated corners for CP operation is larger for the present design than for the conventional design using a square microstrip patch, which suggests that the fabrication tolerance is relaxed for the present design. Typical results are presented and analysed.
