Abstract

To remedy such defects as low reliability and unsatisfied accuracy of fault location by traveling wave correlation algorithm (TWCA), a single terminal traveling wave fault location based on fault location algorithm integrating MMG with correlation function is proposed. The surges caused by traveling wave are separated by a new type of MMG transform. Traveling wave surges are held to possess accurate length by means of a variable structuring element in the new MMG transform. By the next, the multi-layer correlation analysis is performed to implement fault location using the traveling wave surges of transmission line. The initial time-window length of multiple time-window TWCA and the initial length of structuring element are set to be the same, and they vary in the same way of binary-diminishing. Simulation results by ATP show that the proposed algorithm is suitable to various fault distances and can offer higher fault location reliability and accuracy.
