Abstract

Magnetic susceptibility, anisotropy, and EPR of single crystals of copper calcium acetate hexahydrate have been studied down to about 90°K. The average moment, anisotropy, and g values of the dodecahedrally coordinated copper ion are observed to be similar to those reported for octahedrally and tetrahedrally coordinated copper compounds. The metal–ligand bond is almost “ionic.” The data over the complete range of temperature can be fitted very well with Fisher's model of one-dimensional antiferromagnetism, which is consistent with the detailed structure of the crystal.
