Single crystal growth of Pb 2YBa 2Cu 3O 8 and YBa 2Cu 3O 7-x from PbO-B 2O 3 melts

Abstract

Single crystals of YBa 2Cu 3O 7- x were obtained from PbO-B 2O 3 melts by adding PbO-B 2O 3 flux to the primary phase region of the YBa 2Cu 3O 7- x phase on the YBa 2Cu 3O 7- x -BaCu 3O 4 pseudo-binary line. A new compound of Pb 2YBa 2Cu 3O 8, an analogue of Pb 2Sr 2ACu 3O 8, was found from PbO-B 2O 3 rich melts. In the course of the crystal growth study several other compounds including PbYBa 2Cu 3O 8- y , Y 2Ba 6O 9, BaCu 2O y and PbBaCuO x were also obtained.
