Abstract

Luce’s (1963) two-state threshold model predicts observers’ behavior in a simultaneous detection and recognition task. The model was tested by presenting simple visual stimuli for tachistoscopic detection and recognition. Specifically, the prediction that the probability of recognition given a hit will decrease systematically as the observer’s false alarm rate increases was confirmed.
