Abstract

Abstract The aim of this paper is to study the correlation of optical absorption bands and thermoluminescence peaks in LiF:Mg,Ti. Contrary to the numerous earlier publications related to this field, the present work uses a direct experimental approach. It reports on simultaneous thermal bleaching and thermoluminescence measurements on differently doped LiF:Mg,Ti single crystals in the 10-100 kGy dose range. The advantage of this technique is that the thermal bleaching curve of a given absorption band can be directly compared to the TL glow curve, since both were measured on the same sample, at the same time. This paper presents data on the 310, 350 and 380 nm absorption bands. The analysis reveals that all three bands strongly correlate with TL peaks 2 and 3, while they show no significant bleaching at the temperatures above peak 3. In addition the bleaching characteristics of the 350 nm band depend strongly on the Mg content of the sample.
