Abstract

A simple, sensitive, and reliable high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method has been developed for the simultaneous quantification of three major bioactive components (hydroxysafflor yellow A, geniposide, and paeoniflorin) in “Shu-Jin-Tong-Luo” granules (SJTLG), for quality control of this commonly prescribed traditional Chinese medicine. Chromatographic separation was carried out on a Hypersil-ODS column (250 mm × 4.6 mm ID, 5.0 μm) and isocratic elution was employed using acetonitrile and 50 mM potassium dihydrogen phosphate buffer as the mobile phase. The method was fully validated with respect to linearity, precision, accuracy, specificity, and robustness. The validated method was applied successfully to the quantification of the investigated components in samples of SJTLG from different production batches for quality evaluation and control. The results indicate that the HPLC method described is a simple and accurate quality control method for analysis of SJTLG.
