Abstract

The soft ferroelectric and acoustic modes of potassium di-deuterium phosphate (KD *P) have been observed by light scattering experiments. Preliminary results at a temperature 1 2 K° above the ferroelectric phase transition indicate a soft ferroelectric mode relaxation time of τ=1.1 × 10 -9 sec, but do not permit an absolute determination of Γ and υ o of the damped harmonic oscillator model.
