Abstract
Jack A. Friedland, MD, Phoenix, AZ , is a board-certified plastic surgeon and an ASAPS member. The following morphologic changes are associated with the aging process: diminished thickness and elasticity of skin, gradual absorption of subcutaneous tissue, decreased adherence of skin to underlying layers, gravitational descent of soft tissues, and formation of skin folds along lines of skin adherence where the muscles of facial expression insert. Neither a face lift nor facial laser resurfacing alone can correct them all. The concomitant performance of both of these procedures provides the advantages, for both the patient and the doctor, of saving time and offering complete treatment; however, these benefits do not outweigh the increase in risk.
