Abstract

The superposition of physical aging and crystallization processes within the glassy state of a low molecular weight organic compound, a fulvene, at temperatures as far as 40 K below the glass transition temperature is reported. This behavior is not caused by impurities or decomposition. We attribute this effect to small scale translational and orientational motions allowing simultaneously the development of long range order and the relaxation of the glassy state.
