Abstract
This article is devoted to the simulations and analysis of passive optical networks PON (Passive Optical Network) and FTTx (Fibre To The x) in the OptSim programme environment. The real network simulation is done as a prevention of complications in the final construction of optical network, which is designed for specific user requirements. TUKE (Technical University of Kosice) has built a physical model of such networks, where the real conditions and traffic can be tested. The article describes a physical model representing the connection between two buildings in the TUKE campus. These buildings are connected by single mode fibre G 652 B terminated with E2000 / APC, an optical splitter with the ratio of 1:8 and insertion loss of 10.8 dB. The result of the research is to present the differences between the values obtained from the OptSim simulation and real values measured on the physical model using OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer).
