Abstract

To investigate the characteristics of electric field distribution and dynamic spreading process of water droplets on polymer insulator in coastal power grid, a simplified silicone rubber sheet model was established by using COMSOL Multiphysics software. Effects of the water droplet diameter, the contact angle and the conductivity on the maximum droplet surface field and the droplet spreading characteristics were studied. Obtained results reveal that the spreading coefficient shows a decreasing tendency under the condition of increasing the water droplet conductivity and increasing the contact angle. In addition, the droplet diameter plays a promoting part in the droplet spreading. There is a positive relationship between the water droplet diameter, the conductivity and the maximum of droplet surface field. With increasing the contact angle, the maximum droplet surface field shows the decreasing tendency.
