Abstract

A simplified model of bias-induced switching in chalcogenide amorphous semiconductor films is proposed. The behavior of valence alternation pairs and the carrier generation aided by electric field are considered in this model. Current-voltage characteristics are calculated using the simple formula for impact ionization process. The results show switching characteristics which agree with those observed experimentally in chalcogenide amorphous films.
