Abstract

ABSTRACT In this study, an adaptive fuzzy-based PID (AFPID) controller has been suggested for frequency regulation of power systems where the parameters of the proposed controller are optimised by a simplified grey wolf optimisation (SGWO) method. The simplification in original grey wolf optimiser (GWO) method is introduced by ignoring the worst category wolves and giving priority to better wolves throughout the search process. The advantage of projected SGWO over GWO in terms of getting a better solution with less execution time is demonstrated by taking unimodal, multimodal and fixed dimension benchmark functions. Then the proposed SGWO technique is engaged to tune AFPID controller for frequency regulation of four power systems i.e. two area non-reheat, two area with reheat turbine, two area reheat steam turbine with nonlinearity and two area system with a PV and thermal system to prove the controller and algorithm’s effectiveness in regulating frequency change.
