Abstract
A simple receiver with soft decision forward error correction (FEC) based on two comparators is proposed. It is shown that the gain in the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR), as compared with conventional receivers with hard decision FEC, can reach . Some design variants of such detectors are presented.
