Abstract

An indium 0-ring was used to seal an isolated chamber to liquid He n at 10-5 mm Hg, and no appreciable change in pressure was detected as the lambda point was passed. The 0-ring was chosen for economy of space, to avoid the soldering of flanges onto the copper tube, and ease of disassembly. It is expected that this design will be applicable to various optical experiments which require sample isolation and good temperature control.
