Abstract
A spectrophotometric method for the determination of milligram amounts of tin(II) in binary alkali silicate glasses was developed based on the reaction of tin(II) with iodine monochloride in hydrochloric acid medium. There is no interference from tin(IV) and the method is simple, rapid and accurate. A spectrophotometric method for the determination of total tin as tin(II) in binary alkali silicate glasses by forming a red complex with toluene-3,4-dithiol in a hydrochloric acid medium and measuring the absorbance at 545 nm was also developed.
