Abstract

ABSTRACT Color features carries rich information and directly influencing people’s regional perception. This exploration originates from the serial research conducted in the Huizhou area. By analyzing the color features of Hongcun, Nanping, and Xidi, this study probes into the descriptive cognition of independent dimensions, advancing to visual cognition of combined dimensions and psychological cognition of system dimensions. The study established a systematic technical route. Firstly, it sets up spatial sequence paths in typical regional built spaces, uses 3D laser scanning technology for high-quality modeling. Secondly, this study utilizes color as an independent dimension, conducting descriptive statistics on the color attributes – namely, Lightness, Chroma, and Hue – of architectural components to determine their distinct color features in absolute terms. Thirdly, exploring the combined dimension of color, the research delves into visual similarity, examining commonalities within architectural elements. Lastly, from a systemic color perspective, it focuses on the stability of psychological cognition, identifying Huizhou’s color identity through a “black-grey-white” tri-color sequence as a stable composition. Additionally, this technical system features advantages of being systematic and precise. It promotes the scientific and rationality in the color research field, guiding the integrated application of urban design.
