Abstract

The cyclosilthian-cyclotrisilazane reaction reported by Moedritzer and van Wazer has been found to occur in three other systems. In each of these two new compounds were formed. Analysis of the cyclotrisilthian-cyclotetrasiloxane system gave anomalous results. Attempts to interchange cyclosiloxanes with cyclosilazanes and hexamethylcyclotrisithian were not successful, and no interchanges could be observed in systems containing sym-octamethylcyclotetrasiloxazane. Redistribution of tetraethylsilane with methylsiloxane mixture took place to some extent in the presence of large concentrations of aluminium chloride.
