Abstract

It has been found that titanium(VI) included into the matrix of silica-titania xerogels can form colored complexes with hydrogen peroxide, with 1: 1 stoichiometry and absorption maximum at 390 nm. The complexation proceeds in the pH range from 3 to 12, the equilibration time is 2 min, and half-reaction time is 15 sec. The new materials have been used for the solid-phase spectrophotometric and field test determination (using indicator tubes) of 0.6–15 mg/L and 3–190 g/L of H2O2, respectively. The performance characteristics of the procedures have been determined. The accuracy of the results has been examined by the standard addition method. The procedures have been used for the control of the quality of working solutions of H2O2-based disinfectants.
