Abstract

Given school principals’ significant impact on equitable schools, teaching, and learning, retaining quality principals is vital for district and school success. However, recent studies and evidence have raised concerns about principal attrition that are influenced by a variety of district conditions and factors. In this complex case study, which is constructed from different principal experiences, a district focused on the implementation of a strategic plan while navigating a shifting political landscape experiences a silent exodus of principals. Suggested questions and resources for current or aspiring district and school leaders follow this case study.
