Abstract

The article presents the results of archaeological research on signs of destruction of stone architecture in the territory of the Upper Castle in Polotsk in the 11th–13th centuries. These signs were discovered during the restoration works in 2019—2022. There were found places where the “temple on the Upper Castle” and the “princely house” were destroyed. Three previously unknown sites with construction material were also found. The article concludes that in addition to the three known monuments on the Upper Castle, there could have been two more churches and one building of undetermined purpose. One church was located near the cemetery of the 11th—13th centuries. It was discovered and investigated in the north-western part of the Upper Castle. The second temple was located near the western wall of the Red Hospital. The third monument was found in the private sector in the northern part of the Castle.
