Abstract
ObjectiveKnow the frequency of the drug use intravenous among deaths with autopsy occurred during 2000 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Material and methodThrough a comparative analytical observational study see valuated the presence of physical signs of drug use injected (SFUDI) in a non-random sample of 1044 deaths submitted to medical-legal examination and there was described the sociodemographic profile and the principal causes of death. The data were compiled from the death and autopsy certificates. The processing and analysis of the data was carried out in SPSS v. 10andincluded the acquisition of frequency distributions of the variables studied, confidence intervals —I— (α = 0.05) and comparison between groups through the χ2. Results8.2% (CI 95%, 6.7-10.1) of deaths there was found the presence of SFUDI, prevailing the male sex (91.8%) and the age from 25 to 64 years (72.9%). Half of deaths were due to External Disease (51.4%; CI 95%, 48.6; 53.9), 24.1% by accidents and 25.6% by intentional injuries (17.8% by homicide and 8% by suicide). ConclusionsThe findings actual sustain that the presence of SFUDI among deaths of Ciudad Juárez is not a made isolate and they should be taken into account in the design of intervention strategies in these populations
