Abstract

Over the last several years, construction companies have become more oriented towards procurement (supply) chain management due to con-cerns, such as decreasing costs, improving quality and enhancing all pro-cesses including delivery of the final product to the customer. Pro-curement chain management has been embraced rather smoothly thanks to common usage of outsourcing in the construction industry. This study aims to investigate applications of supply chain and procurement management in the construction industry. Concepts, such as development of procurement chain management, objectives and goals, ad-vantages and disadvantages, and its role in operations are addressed in detail as part of this study. In addition, weak points of logistics in construction and supply chain related problems are discussed along with presenting procurement management strategies implemented in construction companies outside Turkey. In conclusion, a critique of existing materials procurement management in construction industry is presented in this study. This information could contribute to the growth of construction in Turkey, since; these concepts are still somewhat new to the industry.
