Abstract

The resolutions of the Assembly, particularly the declarations, influence to some extent the work of several international and regional organizations. The creation of the United Nations occasioned perhaps the best co-ordination of activities between different international organizations that the world has ever seen. This has been made possible under specific provisions of the Charter, i.e., Articles 57-60, by which these organizations were brought into close relationship with the United Nations. By reason of the near-universal membership of the United Nations and the provisions of Chapter VIII of the Charter, regional organizations are not immune to the influence of the United Nations. They are, so to speak, part of complex mechanism of institutions established and maintained for the advancement of the welfare of mankind. In this chapter, we shall study briefly the various ways in which Assembly resolutions influence the activities of these organizations, i.e., in what ways do Assembly resolutions give rise to normative prescriptions which enter the stream of legal regulation of the international community.
