Abstract

By analyzing pre-seismic electromagnetic emissions in the MHz band we find that their evolution over time presents a striking similarity, both in qualitative and quantitative terms, with the evolution of a thermal system (3D-Ising model) as the temperature drops. The phase transition from the symmetric phase (critical state) to a low symmetry phase, that is the symmetry breaking phenomenon through a second order phase transition, can be monitored in real-time in the form of distinct steps during the preparation of a seismic event at the stage that such signals are emitted.
