Abstract

From the Russian standpoint, integration into Western institutions should not connote loss of Russian major power status. Residual forms of mistrust still linger between the West and Russia, and this lack of Western confidence in the future evolution of Russia is reflected in the structure and missions of NATO. The development of post confrontational mechanisms for global conflict resolution and avoidance thus is essential. Russia should participate at the earliest stage in these decision‐making mechanisms to resolve major international issues.
