Abstract
Siegfried Kracauer is first and foremost known in the United States for his extensive writings on film, such as From Caligari to Hitler (1947).1 However, Kracauer was not just a fllm historian but a cultural critic, loosely associated with the Frankfurt School, in particular with Theodor Adorno, Walter Benjamin and Leo Lowenthal. As such, he wrote on a wide range of cultural issues which also included photography.
