Abstract

This article chiefly focuses on the process of restoration and cataloging of the eight-century documents stored in the world's oldest wooden warehouse, Shōsōin, in Japan. The fact that many of these documents are double sided scrolls, and have different kinds of content each side of the paper poses special challenge for those who engage in reconstructing and cataloging the documents.
