Abstract

In a month of debate over where the future of Primary Care is heading, the Kings Fund, a leading health think-tank reported that overall productivity has diminished despite huge monetary spending in the NHS. Indeed, only 30p in every £1 has been earmarked for enhancing patient care. The massive sums pumped in to the service have been soaked up by increased doctors salaries and soaring costs of medical negligence cases. The report also implied that pharmaceutical giants take their share in the ever increasing prices of their products. Year after year since 1997 three years before I became a nurse a whopping £57bn has been spent on the NHS on average.
