Abstract

Long-range ordered alloys Au 3Mn and Au 3Cr were examined by electron diffraction at elevated temperatures. On heating through the critical ordering temperature, the reflections due to LRO disappear and are replaced by diffuse maxima which appear at positions different from the superlattice reflection locations. This behavior agrees with the predictions of a statistical-thermodynamic model for short-range order proposed by Clapp and Moss, but is in contradiction to the microdomain concept for this state.
